-33 Funko Pops are Precious Moments figurines for Millenials, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I'm not a Funko Pop collector, but I'm not of the opinion that they're the worst things ever, either. For example, Funko is willing to take risks and release figures of people/characters that nobody else will do. Let's say you're an Aretha Franklin fan and want a little 3D Aretha to put on your desk. Funko makes two different ones (different outfits) for $10 or so each. Your other options are... well, nothing. Unless you can sculpt one yourself or commission an artist to make you one, the Funko Pops are all there is. Yeah, the obsessive collectors suck (when have obsessive fans been good for anything though?) and some of the designs aren't great, but for a lot of pop culture figures, Funko is the only game in town.

by Sharp_Tomatillo 2 weeks ago

They're talking about those who dedicate their lives and wallets to these, and sit at target for hours weighing mystery minis (another funko product) the key word here is obsessive.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

That's a fun hobby. Obsessive collectors are the ones who pay dozens of times the original price for some crappy piece of plastic from the 70s.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

The USS FLAGG is seven foot long. I say to you that nothing this epic can be called a crappy piece of plastic /s

by hlindgren 2 weeks ago

I miss beenie babies.

by waylon49 2 weeks ago

Bernie babies I'm picturing a bunch of tiny dolls of Bernie Sanders.

by Claudine25 2 weeks ago

Don't muss up the packaging! That there's your daughter's college fund!

by Mcclurekarson 2 weeks ago

Real haha, I collect figures not funko pops but the closet full of boxes is a struggle

by Brief-Hovercraft 2 weeks ago

You take the figures out the box? You've already ruined them.

by lianabeahan 2 weeks ago

Gotta keep them in a dark room. Sunlight will bleach the colors.

by lianabeahan 2 weeks ago

Yes. These are (by and large) worthless plastic trinkets that won't age well or reflect well on the person that kept them for decades.

by LengthinessKey6468 2 weeks ago

Never bought one, never understood the desire for them.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I'm probably the target demographic and I've never bought one myself. I own some Magic the Gathering ones, but that's just because my father gave them to me as a present. I honestly don't really know what to do with them but I obviously can't throw them out.

by No-Selection7167 2 weeks ago

I used to collect heroclix. They didn't take up a lot of space, had some really cool sculpts, and you could actually do something with it than stare at it in box and tell people what a great deal you got it for…

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

same. am turning 35 in less than 5 years, am past 30 and as millennial as you get. HAHA.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

They will reflect poorly on the person owning them? Who has been judging you and who hurt you?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I started collecting them when they first came out. Managed to find a ton of rarer ones. Held on to them for about three years and sold them off one by one on ebay. Actually made a bit of profit mainly because I had a bunch of out of production figures.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Are they somehow different from other toy collections? Sure lots of people have ones that go for a lot online but most people's collections consist of ones they grabbed simply because they liked them.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I am offended and ashamed

by shemarhyatt 2 weeks ago

I'm offended you call them precious moments but uhh

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

They are trophies of our intellectual and cultural interests. Most decorations are.

by Pacochaesmerald 2 weeks ago

Oh you can definitely criticize them for their "designs"

by Existing-Skin3648 2 weeks ago

My mother used to collect Thomas Blackshear Figurines. Those things cost up to a couple hundred dollars. But you could at least see the artistic quality in them.

by lianabeahan 2 weeks ago

It's like telling someone they can't like certain music because YOU can't see the artistic value in it

by Due-Sherbet-7542 2 weeks ago

At least when the grandkids ask, we can say we collected bobbleheads before it was cool, just with extra forehead

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Do the heads actually bobble?

by Additional-Sir 2 weeks ago

Some did? My sister got me a Deadpool one that did

by Major_Huckleberry 2 weeks ago

Maybe not all do.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Some of them do. Marvel and Star Wars ones definitely.

by Sharp_Tomatillo 2 weeks ago

A friend got me the four FLCL Funkos as a gift. I like those because FLCL merch is rare, but I agree for the most part

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I have a couple from things i like that were purchased on clearance, like 5 maybe, not in any way an attempt to collect them

by bartholome28 2 weeks ago

Funko pops are the beanie babies of today.... 😅

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Don't forget Beanie Babies

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

In 50 years time there are going to be landfills full of these things.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I'm absolutely nuts about Funko Pops. Must have spent over $100000 on them by now.

by Lueilwitzkiana 2 weeks ago

Based

by Existing-Skin3648 2 weeks ago

I'm pretty sure Bionicles took that title way before Funko Pops

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

How? Bionicle are their own intellectual property, have an assembly aspect to them, and next to their main line have bigger and more expansive lego sets. They're actual toys with lore and a franchise attached. Might as well include the entirety of lego if the requirements are that they are plastic and people collect them

by Fearless-Ad2280 2 weeks ago

The obsession over the condition of the box it comes in becomes problematic.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I don't know what either of those are

by nathenmayert 2 weeks ago

Yes, it is! But be careful, you will give the Precious Moments company ideas. For every Funko pop, there will now be a Precious Moments equivalent!

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Funko Pops are cringe. I don't understand their appeal.

by Hackettroberto 2 weeks ago

They're a soulless, dead eyed, cash grab, that only a sucker would buy. I see them in someone's domicile, and my opinion of that person immediately goes down.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You're a steelers fan and my opinion of you went immediately down. Only a sucker would support them

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Oh no. How can I live with the shame!?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I don't particularly care for them, but if your opinion of someone is swayed that easily, you might just be judgemental.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

It's only if it's in their domicile. If it's their house or flat or apartment or crash pad it's ok

by Waste-Opening-8670 2 weeks ago

We're all judgmental. You just judged me for judging others. It's part of the deal. But I will automatically assume you are a chump if you own funco pops. And I won't doubt it for a second. But they're collectible! Yeah if you are a moron.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

They're kind of like furbys

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I agree that the craze for funkopops became ridiculous. I personally buy them when I find my favorite characters, and I find them cute.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I'm a millennial and don't even know what a Funko pop is

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Trash future enjoyer?
