-28 If someone says "This is a 100% women owned shop"- it should be acceptable to say "I only support 100% men owned businesses", amirite?

by Ill-Jellyfish 2 weeks ago

I don't care if a transformer owns it. If it's a good product or service and a good price, I will do business with them.

by Trisha68 2 weeks ago

Bro have you been to a transformer owned business? Theres more than meets the eye.

what if it's decepticons? They can be very deceptive.

Plus you might get conned

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I dunno, I don't think I'd want to support the Decepticon war effort

by Effiequitzon 2 weeks ago

Amen. I take issue when people lead with the gender of the owners vs. discussing the product when talking about a shop.

by Ill-Jellyfish 2 weeks ago

Incels have a majority of businesses to choose from as I assume you guys only support businesses owned by white male Christians. Shop there. Delete your account.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Why would you respond that way? "I only support male owned businesses" doesn't seem like a logical response to someone simply telling you it's a woman-owned business. They are giving you information, they are not telling you you can only support businesses owned by women. You honestly look childish if that's your response in this scenario.

by RareGene1092 2 weeks ago

I personally get turned off to a business when they say something like that. I really just don't care.

by Torptristin 2 weeks ago

if it turns you away from a business, doesn't that mean you care

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Literally huh? 😂

by Wooden_Zombie 2 weeks ago

Because men have been the primary business owners for centuries. Come on, it's not difficult to understand.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Ugh men. The worst. We should punish today's men because other unrelated men have owned businesses ! That 'ill show these men that they were born into the wrong gender !

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

It's not punishing us to support women owned businesses. That's just nonsense.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Avoiding male-owned businesses because they aren't owned by women is a punishment hombre

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

We've been mostly supporting 100% men owned businesses since the beginning of time. On average in the US, 5. 42% of all businesses are owned by women. So you can see why they'd be more proud / wanting to raise awareness of it.

by Eladioblock 2 weeks ago

nothing to be proud of being woman business owner in 2024 in developed world, cringe people pretending hardships from 1800 is still here

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Why would they raise awareness though? It's not like it's an achievement, a sign of quality or even ethically better

by mrosenbaum 2 weeks ago

We don't talk about it with males the same way because it's always been that way for hundreds of years. It's only relatively recently that it's accepted women can own their own businesses that aren't based entirely around food, the kitchen or beauty

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I don't care what race or gender owns a business, I just care what they are selling.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Most of the "woman-owned businesses" around me are just businesses filed under a woman's name, usually the wife or other female relative, so they get that title. With some exceptions of course, it's become a joke and the women have little-to-no part in actually running the business. Either way, as a woman, I don't care who owns what, as long as the business operates ethically and their products are worth a damn.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I love when people think groups who are more marginalized than others shouldn't market any business they own as such. The distinction not mattering to you personally doesn't mean it doesn't matter in general.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Same reason people don't go on about supporting "white-owned businesses." White people are not marginalized and systemically discriminated against.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Because for a large portion of history (and in some aspects still to this day), women have been a marginalized group and people typically want to help good causes. What's the justification for a male only business?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Yes we know that. The point is that "I am going to preferentially go to businesses owned by {demographic}" was the logic used by bigots of yesteryear, and the liberals of today.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

No. Bigots of yesteryear used it as a tactic to suppress non-white, non-male establishments. It was a way to keep people currently in charge in their positions so that even if women and non-whites had legal equality they'd never have the freedom or liberation associated with economic independence. The tool is currently being used to help historically disadvantaged communities to break into business ownership. And OP obviously didn't know that or they wouldn't have said "why don't we talk about supporting male owned businesses in the same way".

by Qfranecki 2 weeks ago

Any small business, whether its white or black owned; male or female owned- has an equal shot of success or failure. If given two identical shops, but one owned by one group and another by the other- it feels unfair to allow some shops to use this as a unique selling point and not others when we're striving towards having everyone be treated equally. If we're going to allow one group to say stuff like this- we should be equally comfortable with the other group doing the same- or customers being vocal about why they're supporting one group vs. the other.

by Ill-Jellyfish 2 weeks ago

Any small business, whether its white or black owned; male or female owned- has an equal shot of success or failure. LOL LOL LOL.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Any small business, whether its white or black owned; male or female owned- has an equal shot of success or failure Brother is living in a fantasy land

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

The problem is, if you said white owned it has some different connotations. Obviously there is nothing wrong with something white owned, but tell me that doesn't sound like the biggest racist dog whistle. Why? Because not too long ago "whites only" signs were a very real thing.

by Trisha68 2 weeks ago

Completely false. It's been documented for centuries how men run things. This is specifically someone trying to break the mold.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

That's because only men were ALLOWED to run things for centuries. This isn't true anymore. There are lots of successful female owned businesses in the West.

by Sharp_Ad 2 weeks ago

Someone doesn't understand historic disparities in women's and minority wealth!

by izaiah76 2 weeks ago

I want a product or service, I don't care about who owns the business.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Because under 20% of businesses that hire are woman owned.

by Uptoneunice 2 weeks ago

I mean, if they were serving aboriginal food I'd care if they were aboriginal... Ex: my Filipino wife has a Filipino restaurant :) However, outside of that DGAF

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

well women weren't even allowed to own businesses at one point in time [not that long ago, literally the 80's lol]. can't say the same for men. it's nice to know that we're actively working against the historic misogyny, idgaf if a business is man-owned because i expect that to be the case lol. i guess a woman would understand that marketing tactic more than a man would, because you get the privilege of thinking gender doesn't matter when misogyny is very much still alive.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

not that long ago, literally the 80's lol Where? Even in Ireland women could and did own businesses in the 80s. Not saying it was easy back then but it was certainly possible.

by Sharp_Ad 2 weeks ago

Also women have always worked. Rich white women weren't allowed to own businesses

by Curious_Loan 2 weeks ago

Why would the simple fact that a business is owned by women mean you should automatically prefer one owned by men?

by Trentschimmel 2 weeks ago

It's about helping support marginalized people enter the arena of commerce. That's why I don't shop at 100% women owned business; not marginalized enough. I only shop at businesses owned 100% by pansexual, non-binary, handicapable, Native American, illiterate Muslim drag queens with dwarfism.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

But hasn't all those perverts who have hired hookers been supposing women only bid finesse for years

by Several-Host4633 2 weeks ago

Hell no. There is some pimp taking their money. That's still male owned.

by Trisha68 2 weeks ago

This isn't really an opinion

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

"It should be acceptable to say ‘I only support 100% male owned businesses'" is one hell of an opinion
