+44 We need to figure out what guns we need and not debate over which guns we need to ban to protect against gun violence. amirite?

The thing is, we need guns because everyone has guns, because there are so many guns around, which is why we need guns. It's because everyone has guns.

Which is something that should have been changed after America was no longer in Civil War or other wars, but that never happened so hear we are 200 years and hundreds of shootings later

And it's the not the idea of owning one that I'm completely against but getting one that's not going to be used for hunting should be an actual process, not just a transaction at a store that sells guns. Extensive background checks, mental health evaluations. The ability to own a weapon should not be given lightly

I agree. It would be nice if the debate was, which weapons have a logical legal use, but we can't even have a civilized discussion about it without it devolving to "FREEDOM, if I want a .50 cal machine gun to impress my friends I should be allowed to have one because Merica!"

The idea is perfect, seemingly, but the factors that already exist like the 2nd amendment make it impossible to carry out. We could say that home owners shouldn't have guns for self defense but how do you take the guns from a) millions of americans and b) criminals that already have stockpiles of weapons

As a european, the idea that you wood need a gun for self defense seems to be from such a weird different reality...

I'm Canadian, we don't need guns for self defense, and I don't like the idea of people just having guns around to shoot other people who try to steal just material items, but I included it so anger the entire population of the US

Violence is not about the weapon, it is people harming people. The focus should not be on guns at all but what is causing people to attack others.

First of all, you're never going to get everyone to agree on what you're asking. The "Well, how much firepower do you actually need?" argument is as well-worn among the anti-gun crowd as it is braindead and missing the point. Personally, whether you love guns, hate them, or are somewhere in the middle, the more important reason to protect the Second Amendment is that we should not surrender our rights to the government. If you're willing to surrender rights that you don't care about, don't get surprised Pikachu when they start demanding you surrender rights you do care about.
