Depends really as you don't need to "attack" someone to make fun of them or make them look foolish. For me it simply goes the first person to insult is the first person to lose the argument, doesn't matter how right they are or the awful things the other side has said. If one starts throwing a fit and emotionally lashing out and name calling they lost. If you don't like someone or their message mess with them a bit and you quickly see some cracks to poke giant holes in.

More like low-hanging fruit. What is the point of ridiculing a bad person because of his looks when you can criticize their actions. Besides, usually people who engage in this type of behavior are just looking for an outlet because it is not socially acceptable to do that to average folk.

No. It isn't. Evil should be punished indiscriminately. I do not care about setting an example. That's called being a doormat. As if those examples ever lead to anywhere anyway...
