Cooperation/altruism/being "nice" is a more effective (winning strategy) over time vs deflection/non-cooperation. Think of a deer who can't bite insects off/groom all parts of his body -- so another deer does it -- they do it for one another.... birds pecking the skin of teeth of other animals... they get fed... while the animal is cleaned. Key precepts -- be clear and don't be a push over... but cooperation is key. Demonstrated w nuclear weapons... vs countries continuing to grow/accelerate... a small arsenal became the goal (at least for some). Monies freed up to invest in other country needs.... infrastructure... healthcare (in some countries) etc.

Ever heard of prisoner's dilemma? Every cooperation and conflict is based on it. Yes it way more complicated with humans, but the base part is all the same

It actually is something you can live by. One can practice it in their relationships, in their jobs...
