Have you forgotten that some people have IRL friends?

Think about the 3 hours before bed without your smartphone. the butterfly effect of everyone losing that. People going to start crying again.

Good. Maybe people should cry more instead of dissociating in front of a screen. Personally I love it when I put my phone down and spend a few hours reading, drawing, cooking, etc. Staring at your phone right before bed interrupts your sleep anyway.

do you sit on your phone for 3 hours before bed? I merely check my notifications for work and then go to sleep. My screen time on my phone before bed is usually less than 5 minutes.

I friggin love watching YouTube in bed, maybe not 3 hours but over two

What do you do 3 hours before bed everyday, how often do you use any social media or internet throughout the day on any device

Then by that logic, every activity on the planet is to thwart lonliness. I don't suffer from lonliness. It is not resolved by writing code, a solo activity It is not resolved by playing a single player game. It is not resolved by watching TV or movies. What do you expect me to do with my free time when I am alone? Am I not allowed to do anything alone without the allegation that I am lonely and trying to thwart it? Shall I sit perfectly still and perform no activities what-so-ever to demonstrate to 'nobodycares' that I am not lonely. That is stupid. I fight loneliness by having an active social life outside of social media. I don't need to be surrounded by people 24/7 and in group activities 24/7 to not feel lonely.

Computers still exist.

Well that's also a reason just everybody uses their smartphone more

Are you telling me that a single person can't have irl friends to fulfill their social needs? Why do you think single people are dependent upon phones to fill their needs? Is it because that's how you fill yours?

by Happy-Preference 1 week ago

They absolutely can, but I think you underestimate how the internet can thwart your loneliness.

God help us if we're forced to date just not to be lonely 🙄

I'd say this is probably pretty true.
