+36 As much as getting up early for work sucks, it is nicer being up early. amirite?

by Personal-Agent 1 week ago

As a morning person, I completely agree with you. Early mornings are beautiful.

by Weak_Mix_7456 1 week ago

I am absolutely not a morning person, but 7-3 has been my favorite work schedule. I miss having PL offshore support to justify doing it. I also miss the Poles in general, they were an absolute joy to work with.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

And you finally get to do all the things 9-5ers never get to enjoy because you're off at 3!!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

And some of my doctors and my dentist can do a 4pm appointment of you book in advanced. I can run errands after work. I am not a morning person but 7-3 slaps.

by Aboehm 1 week ago

7- 3:30 or 4* idk anyone who works 7.5 hour shifts

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yeah I think it was technically 6:30-3 with a 30 minute lunch deducted but we opened at 7 so it didn't feel like work until then lol

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I agree too but can we reschedule that to like 8?

by Effective_Fix 1 week ago

I don't really like getting up early for work. But getting up early on the weekends is what I prefer. Cooking breakfast around 5 or 6am while it's quiet and playing some soft jazz on low volume is one of my simple pleasures.

by Illustrious_Can4255 1 week ago

This sounds amazing!

by Human-Gap 1 week ago

Right on, brother. I'm 33, and to be honest, I'm still really enjoying more extreme metal! I consider Stoner doom to be pretty chill, though, relatively speaking. To be honest, my all-time favorite go-to for cooking has and will always be Fallout 3-NV-4 radio collections.

by Mabel95 1 week ago

Man, opening up the pip-boy, and playing the radio is always dope. Wandering through the wasteland with that music in the background is good stuff. I didn't even know they had actual radio collections, though. I'm going to have to check it out!

by Illustrious_Can4255 1 week ago

Could not agree more! I imagine many of the Fallout collections are fan made, but there are plenty on Spotify and YouTube!

by Mabel95 1 week ago

Same. Minus the low jazz. I like to eat my breakfast and once that's done I'll sit on my patio table with my coffee and a book and just breathe in the fresh morning air.

by Watersleonie 1 week ago

Aint no way you'd be able to read a book outside at 5 am lol

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You don't have a porch light?

by Enough-Interview 1 week ago

Nope. Live in an apartment w/o one. I wouldn't want to turn it on anyways at 5 am. It would feel weird being visible under a spotlight to my neighbors that early.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

If you live far enough north, the sun is coming up by then

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Electricity exists...

by Watersleonie 1 week ago

Book lights??

by Sporermatilde 1 week ago

Yes! The other excellent thing about being up early on the weekends is you can get a lot done before you have to go out and run errands and when you do run errands early there tends to be fewer people.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The weekends are when I sleep in. Getting up at 745am is early enough for me during the week. I hate waking up when it's still dark outside.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I always get up around 5:30 or 5:45 even though I don't have to leave for work until 8. I just enjoy relaxing, having coffee, watching TV, taking my time getting ready. I hate rushing in the morning. Makes my day feel shorter.

by Marawiegand 1 week ago

Getting up early only sucks if you stay up late.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

That's a lie. I can go to bed at 8pm and sleep all night and still not want to get up. Still wake up exhausted. And I've already had testing done and nothing is wrong. Could be depression but who knows

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Is that your normal routine though? If you usually go to bed at 12 and wake up at 8, then yeah waking up at 4, even on 8hrs sleep, your body will say "oh no no no it's still the middle of the night pal".

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I usually go to bed around 10pm and wake up at 5am for work. I've been getting up at 5 since elementary school and idk what people are on about. Oh your body will get used to it in no time. Lmao it's been almost 20 years and I'm still not used to it.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Right? It shouldn't be dark out when I wake up lol

by No-Championship-681 1 week ago

In Canada it's dark when you wake up for at least half the year

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It depends on the person. With me, it doesn't matter if I sleep 8-10 hours, if I am getting up at 6am, I am going to be miserable and drag. My body just hates it. Even after doing it for years. 8am or later is where my body prefers.

by Traditional-Two 1 week ago

People just refuse to believe some people are this way. Like man, I spent YEARS waking up early. I never got used to it. I woke up feeling dead. I wake up for work at 9am now and I wake up feeling so much more alive. And it's on the same amount of sleep, so that wasn't the issue. My body just isn't wired to get up early.

by Traditional-Two 1 week ago

And even then getting up early is still superior. Sleeping in sucks once your past like 21. This shouldn't be unpopular lol

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yea I do that frequently. I'm probably gonna change that once the semester ends though

by Personal-Agent 1 week ago

I loooove my 6 am - 12 pm shift. I have the wholeeee day afterwards.

by wcarter 1 week ago

You work 6 hours? Sounds like a dream

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yeah I'm so confused by some of these shifts people have? I love my 4x10/3x13 shifts but gad damn there's not much day left after haha

by Ok_Celebration_5336 1 week ago

It's nicer when you don't have to work and go for a hike, a walk to the park, or to buy some hot atole from a street vendor in the winter (mexican lifestyle).

by Pretty-Wonder 1 week ago

The way my work hours are, I'm in bed pretty often, with in about an hour of getting home. I get up around 0430 to try and go to the gym, but also to allow myself a decent morning where I can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee (and maybe chat on here for a bit).

by Amazing-Chipmunk-193 1 week ago

Agreed! I hate rushing in the morning so i am up a bit earlier to relax.

by Brilliant-Durian-738 1 week ago

I think this is an extremely popular opinion. It's why 2nd and 3rd shifts often times get pay differentials - because most prefer 1st shift.

by osbornehowe 1 week ago

I hate getting up early. Not sure if it happens to other people, but I legitimately feel ill when I'm awake before the sun is up. My stomach hurts and I'm just nauseous. I work 7-3:30, which is damn early enough. Idk how anyone gets up for earlier jobs honestly

by cortezaufderhar 1 week ago

I have the same thing.

by Stephenkerluke 1 week ago

I love working early and getting done early. My shift is technically 7-3. But I can start as early as 3 or 4 am. I get done when I get done the days work and get paid until 3 regardless of what time I leave. On Fridays I come in super early and can be done anytime before 12 pm. It feels like I have a 3 day weekend almost every week.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I suck at mornings, but it does feel good once you're up and going, and have accomplished something, and there's still a lot of the day left. But I still hate mornings and will fight getting up until the last possible moment every day.

by Desperate-Mind 1 week ago

I did like the feeling of accomplishment but I never could get used to it. Not to mention, I would just be tired after work and never could maximize the "extra" time.

by Ok-Speech 1 week ago

Yep. I worked at a bakery, coffee shop, others. I always say, I hate getting up early, but I love being up early.

by dollyhalvorson 1 week ago

"A lot of people say you can't smoke dope and get drunk when you have kids but that's not true. You can. But you still gotta get up in the morning. That's being responsible. Being a man."

by olynch 1 week ago

Not if your commute is long.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It sucks for like one week then you adjust

by Swimming_Worry 1 week ago

I can never get used to getting up at 2-3 am for past year since getting back into office i try but cant quite get he zen out of it.

by Brilliant-Durian-738 1 week ago

Honestly, I never adjusted. No matter how early I went to sleep or how long I did it for, I just didn't adjust. My body hates waking up before 8am.

by Traditional-Two 1 week ago

I wish this were true for me. I have never been able to keep up with a "normal" sleeping schedule in my life for longer than a few weeks. I'm okay with it, though.

by Any-Grab-6147 1 week ago

I had a job once where it was 5:30-17:30 12 hour shifts but every 2 weeks they would swap the shifts so I never got adjusted, and ended up having a mental breakdown. The worst job I ever had, even though it wasn't too strenuous (quality assurance at a veggie packaging plant) and it was decent pay at the time.

by leonel82 1 week ago

That should be illegal, incredibly unhealthy

by Swimming_Worry 1 week ago

Probably quicker tbh. Knowing me, id give it a day or 2

by Personal-Agent 1 week ago

I also work 6-1. It takes me 20 minutes to get to work. Meanwhile if i was departing between 8:00 and 8:30 it would take me 45 min just to get to the freeway. I experience no significant traffic and everywhere is open at ~1 or 2

by Ok_Frosting_7752 1 week ago

I'm usually up around that time but don't start work until 7. As a natural morning person I have never slept in a day in my life, even when I went away to college.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I absolutely love it. I wake up at 5am and leave the house by 6am. I get to avoid all the bad drivers and there's barely anyone on the train. My peers do the usual leave at 8am or 9am and constantly complain about how bad the commute is. I rarely have this issue nowadays unless I'm staying late in the office.

by rippinreed 1 week ago

Wait. You got up at 5:30 for a 6 AM shift that you had to drive to and still made it in time with getting ready and out the door? Damn, that's impressive.

by lehnerjayme 1 week ago

It was more around 5:15 or so but yea. Did get here a few minutes late admittedly but I can pull it off. Just get some shorts and a nice shirt (my job doesn't have a strict dress code) and get going by 5:45 or so. I live close to work thankfully

by Personal-Agent 1 week ago

Glad it was a decent start to your day!

by lehnerjayme 1 week ago

I'm not sure how unpopular this is. Most people hate the getting up part, but once you're up, you're basically getting more of the day, you get to beat the crowds when doing whatever it is you do (depending on how early), its pretty, and for those of us who run hot its nice to get the cool air.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I do agree. But I love to sleep and I love to sleep in though, and I also love the quiet nights and being up late since that seems to promote my creativity and such, but I would love not needing to sleep. Such a waste of time

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I'm a night owl and I also agree I get up early and also go to bed very late.. I probably get like 3-4 hours a sleep everyday but that's all I need. I'm not going to waste my life napping

by kelsie80 1 week ago

I agree that early mornings are peaceful and often pretty but my natural sleep cycle is not that of an early morning person and when I've had jobs that required waking up at 6 am, I just didn't feel good.

by Stephenkerluke 1 week ago

I hate mornings so much but I started working out at 530a for a little and man it is a different vibe

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Couldn't agree more I work 6-2, and it's awesome. Get to spend time with family and my girlfriend with plenty of time left in the day

by amara15 1 week ago

I don't like it but it does have its peaceful moments. everything feels calmer and the early morning sky is definitely a bonus

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yeah I was never really a morning person until the past couple of years. I have a young child and he used to get up around 5am everyday. He sleeps in until half 6 now but the habit stuck with me. I love running early just as the suns coming up. It's so quiet and peaceful.

by Ollie11 1 week ago

I LOATHE waking up early, but when given the option, the sooner I can start work, the sooner I get leave. I hate getting off work only for it to be dark outside, and everything is closed or close to closing.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Breathing in morning air feels as crisp and satisfying as being thirsty and popping open a nice cold sprite.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I don't have to be at work until 1430 today. I got up at 0530. I've gotten a ton of stuff done around my house.

by Other_Ticket_4995 1 week ago

Early or 530, which are we walking about? Getting up at 530 for a 6 shift you don't get up early.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I usually have to be up early for work, I don't mind if most days since that just means I can out of work and have a good amount of time to do whatever I want after

by EasternBridge8963 1 week ago

Working nights I sometimes come home around 5/6, it too is peaceful and I wish I could wake up for that normally.

by No_Veterinarian 1 week ago

I work 7 to 3 and I like it. Sometimes I have to change shifts and work 9-5 and I while I love being able to sleep in getting out of work at 5 sucks.

by Winter-Treacle 1 week ago

I just want to wake up with the sun. In the summertime, if that means 5:45, so be it. But in the winter time, sometimes 7:30 can be tough.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Hmmm, didn't think this was unpopular. Totally agree with you.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It's unpopular with who I know

by Personal-Agent 1 week ago

I don't like getting up at 5:30 for work :( I am definitely a night owl through and through.

by leonel82 1 week ago

The sky was pretty since the sun was starting to rise. There wasn't anyone really around. My shift didn't pick up until a few hours in. Two out of those three are related to a large reduction in other people out and about rather than it being early in the day. Life sure is quieter and more enjoyable with fewer people interrupting and making demands of you at every turn /s. It's the same with 3rd shift.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I disagree. I work 2nd shift and don't wake up to an alarm. It's been life changing. I usually wake up around 11. If I need errands done before work I have time. Or I can nap if I didn't sleep well. I used to have to be to work at 7 am and DID like getting off early... but much prefer my routine now. Plus I drank a LOT when I worked early shift and am now 3 yrs sober.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The whole alarm thing is exactly why I'm NOT a morning person. Being jarred awake is one of the worst things you can do to your body.

by Zboncakchanelle 1 week ago

If I was retired, I'll sleep in. But for the next 40 years I would ALWAYS choose to work in the early morning. Not because I like it, but because I have the rest of the day to myself. Working a 3-11PM doesn't feel like enough time to do whatever you want before work and you have no time to do anything after.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Wait until you get so used to it that you can't sleep in on weekends

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I sleep in all winter because it's cold and dark. Once the sun is back in season, I'm up at 6 ready to go. It is nicer to start early, I'd have to agree with you.

by Regular-Confusion-82 1 week ago

I think early morning is one of the best times of day, but I also say that as someone who primarily works until 11pm most nights and goes to the bar with friends after work, so I only ever get up earlier than 10am-11am if it's for something special. Going on vacation, breakfast plans, family/holiday events, cool hiking trail with friends, etc. If I had to get up early for any type of work/labor or just anything I'm not really excited about I'd be way more upset about it.

by Camronwest 1 week ago

8/9am is perfect for me, any earlier and I'm super tired come 6pm.

by syble25 1 week ago

I recently got a gym membership and started going at 5am and getting back home at 620am to get ready for work. It is nice to drive around with less people on the road and less people at the gym.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I'm up early regardless of work or not. I prefer it and if I need to a nap is easy.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Some parts of the year it is still dark at 6:30am. Waking up in the dark is insane to me unless you have a job where you need to maximize daylight.

by Fredy23 1 week ago

I used to wake up at 3 for a shift that started at 5, and the mornings sucked but I got out and 1 and loved it. Afternoons is the worst because your entire day revolves around getting to work ontime. Running errands BEFORE work is awful. I loved getting off early and not having to worry if things were closed and there wasn't pressure because work was already over

by epadberg 1 week ago

Desperately wish I was a morning person, but I am an eternal night owl :(

by Dense_Comfort 1 week ago

Is this unpopular? Most people at my job prefer to start at the crack of dawn. I hate it. Night time is when I have "me time" and when I have to wale ip early I have less of it.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Early mornings are great but I'm completely useless after 9pm lol

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I love being up early. I hate HAVING to be up early. Dunno why its so different but man is it..

by PuzzledCouple5368 1 week ago

I'm up at 5:30 for work myself. It's so, so much better than getting out of work late. I would rather start an hour later, though, so I could fit a morning walk in.

by Nice-Sport-5219 1 week ago

Agree. I was a night owl for YEARS until very recently. I used to stay up until 5 or 6 in the morning because I actually enjoyed it. Now, I genuinely like getting up around 730 or 8.

by ZealousidealSafe8330 1 week ago

I am 100% more productive in the morning. I notice when I sleep in on Saturday, I lay in bed scrolling until 2 and then the whole day is gone. My fiance goes in at 2pm and sleeps til around 11-12 usually. Drives me nuts. Idk how people work second. I used to in my early 20s and I could never now.

by HopeBorn 1 week ago

I get up at 315am I just hope i get enough sleep

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I was a diehard night owl as a kid. I loooved being awake alone. Now that I'm older and most of my hobbies consist of day-time hours or when other people are awake, mornings are perfect. You get the peace of people, but not too many people. I love the sun. I work 7:30-6pm most days, but I get out early (3pm) on Tuesdays and weekends off. Sooo much better than a "changes every two weeks and nobody else wants to close but you need money so you're the only one with open availability so we make you close all week" schedule.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

i wake up 5:15 on week days and 7 am on weekends (if i oversleep lol), if i get up later i get grumpy bc i feel like i've lost the morning

by quitzonamy 1 week ago

Agreed. I just wish my job was conducive to an early start. I usually get up at 6 and don't have to be in the office until 9. I'd rather a 7-3 than a 9-5

by Jennyferkeeling 1 week ago

I'm in my 6th year of being a barista and I FINALLY get this. The worst part is going to bed earlier, I still struggle falling asleep before 11. But the mornings are just stunning and peaceful. And I have so much day left when works over!

by jordimacejkovic 1 week ago

wrong

by harveytobin 1 week ago

The first few minutes suck but once I stand up, turn on the lights, drink some coffee, I'm pretty much good. But the hard part is getting up initially

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I feel like since I feel miserable in the morning the rest of the day I'm just chillin', but I do enjoy having most of the afternoon free

by Sophia44 1 week ago

Hard agree. Also it feels like you actually have a full afternoon/evening to enjoy yourself when you get off work, and can just go to bed when it gets dark out. When I used to stay up and sleep in late during college, it always felt like I was desperately trying to squeeze in some "me" time at like midnight because I was busy till then

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I get up at 4am on weekdays to make lunches and breakfast for kids. And I have some time built in there fir me. While I'm making food I'll be jamming on.my ear buds. I love it but it is hard sometimes.

by Cautious_Trouble9839 1 week ago

As someone who now works 3am-11am, I sort of approve this message 😅 I actually do like it okay but man do I never feel rested anymore. Going to bed at 6pm is a real struggle for me so I now rely on naps to make up for my lack of 8 hours. Probably bad for my health but the money is decent so I have to deal with it for now haha

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Since this includes getting up sucks but is better I'd say that's a rather popular opinion

by ComprehensiveTry6832 1 week ago

Same but not for the pretty aspects but because I get off work earlier than 9-10pm

by Dry-Pie 1 week ago

I don't mind getting up in the early morning on my days off. Doing it for work sucks.

by ortizarlie 1 week ago

i'm desperately not a morning person, but 3am to 7am is my favorite time of day

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I just got my first office job a few months back that requires me to be up at 7. And I hate waking up so early, but I appreciate what it's done for my productivity

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I hate getting up early, but once I'm at work and get going, I don't mind it too much. I have a hard time getting to sleep sometimes. I have RLS and when it acts up that makes it even harder to get to sleep. I do enjoy getting out of work at a decent time so I'll still have time to do stuff.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The early part is alright, but going to bed at 8:30-9pm sucks. Your friends get off work at 5 or 6. They want to meet up around 7 to 8 and stay out until 10-11. Adult recreational activities don't even start until 6 to 7. Leagues, tournaments, etc. Being on a different schedule from mainstream society ostracizes you just as much whether you work late and have to directly miss things, or work early and still have to miss things. Or, you participate anyway and miss a ton of sleep. Those peaceful mornings are a lot less blissful when you're dragging yourself out of bed after four hours of sleep to start working at or before dawn.
