+21 If you're poor and you use DoorDash you probably deserve to be poor, amirite?

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

I agree, grocery delivery I understand, cheaper than getting a sitter or paying for an Uber for some folks. Doordash when you are not flush with expendable income is a stupid waste of money. Even if you are comfortable it is a pretty pricey treat that I cannot justify outside of being trapped with no food or a place to store groceries.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Door dash only makes sense when you are Drunk Drunk Sick because you drank too much. Okay maybe if you really need chicken soup.... And forgot to keep 4 cans of it and ginger ale for emergencies when you are sick. Door dash cheaper than a DUI... Or getting shot by the neighbor for raiding the wrong fridge which was more of a pot issue...

by AdventurousFig8492 4 weeks ago

I've been higher then you could ever imagine and have never wandered into the wrong house to raid the fridge.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Well then obviously you haven't been higher than that guy just imagined.

by charleytreutel 4 weeks ago

To be fair I was drunk and sat back and watched my friend do it..... Ahh good times

by AdventurousFig8492 4 weeks ago

I'll add in 5. under recovery from an injury

by Kerlukeluigi 4 weeks ago

Valid

by AdventurousFig8492 4 weeks ago

I would not use doordash even if it was cheaper. I want the food as fresh as possible otherwise the whole point of eating out dissapears for me which is tasty different food than what I can make myself. For the most part also enjoy the anticipation of going to the restaurant etc to pick it up so do not mind a little bit of extra "work" which I guess would otherwise be why many prefer to get it delivered.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

It really only makes sense when you don't have a car, or you are too drunk and/or too stoned to drive.

by reagan86 4 weeks ago

I use DoorDash to get food from downtown where it's like 8 miles away cos I can easily afford it and the restaurants around me suck. I'm not about to drive 16 miles to get some good food lol. To a lot of people that's wasteful but I can easily afford it so idrc. A lot of good restaurants are now on DoorDash or Grubhub and the like and getting high quality restaurant food has never been easier. I also cook, but it's a hassle to make some stuff like tonkotsu broth so I'd rather just order.

by Katlynn80 4 weeks ago

This is the take the Poor's (me) don't want to hear

by Mean-Succotash-8720 4 weeks ago

Do you use a lot of convenience apps like this? I didn't grow up with them so I just can't buy into using them.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Oh man, where do I even start with this? First off, saying poor folks can't afford Uber is like saying fish can't swim. Have you heard of public transport? Walking? People find a way. And yeah, some might be grinding with two jobs, but that doesn't mean they're living in a drive-thru. Plenty of people hustle hard and still find time to cook. And don't even get me started on the whole "15-minute food prep" thing. Have you ever heard of meal prep? Batch cooking? You can whip up a week's worth of meals in less time than it takes for your Uber Eats to arrive. So, sorry to burst your bubble, but your argument is about as solid as a soggy taco.

by Pitiful-Tooth 4 weeks ago

Your counter "argument" is the hilarious take.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Tf you think people did before food delivery? Starve?

by Free_Intention 4 weeks ago

Got Married. One could work and the other had time and energy to cook. But on today's salary you cannot afford paying for your whole family's expenses usually. If you can, well, congratulations, genuinely envy you :)

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I don't care how many hours you work in a day, you have time to prepare meals instead of spedning minimum 20 dollars twice a day

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

If someone makes $15 an hour and they think it's worth working an extra hour and spending it on food, it's their choice. And this choice isn't the reason they are struggling financially. Also, the lack of empathy and high horse vibes is astonishing. After standing for 15 hours and working, expecting people to stand more and prep food is so silly. Focus on the cause of the issue, not the symptom.

by Electrical-Egg 4 weeks ago

You will be poor and unhealthy if you live this way. Meal prep if you must but learning to cook will save you so much money. I spent 80$ at the grocery story this week and got tons of fruit for smoothies (ninja is a cheap and fast way to make meals), and dinner foods like while chicken, pork loin, and ground turkey. I also got potatos and a big box of salad. I even splurged for some asparagus. I didn't even list everything I got and it was way more than enough to feed my wife and I for the entire week. If you can get a jug of whey protein and some peanut butter you can do amazing things with the ninja and some fruit.

by Victoradams 4 weeks ago

Yeah they would definitely be healthy, we are just talking about money here. Outside food is always less nutritious than home cooked food.

by Electrical-Egg 4 weeks ago

I mean it could be tho. Like let's say this person orders delivery once a day & its $15 (literally an hour of their wage). Over the week, that's $105. In a month, it's $420. In a year, it's $5,040. That's a lot of money & could be going to bills, debt, savings, etc. Obvs being poor doesn't mean you can never enjoy a treat, but if you're "treating" yourself everyday by spending 3x what's necessary on one meal, it's not a good financial decision.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

This choice would be one of the reasons they are struggling financially

by vernawunsch 4 weeks ago

if you live anywhere near civilisation, you don't need a car to get food. Most people can walk or cycle to a grocery store.

by Conscious_Singer7955 4 weeks ago

Ofcourse it's cheaper, no one is arguing over that. But blaming poor people for being poor for spending a little more than needed on food is very hateful and unempathetic.

by Electrical-Egg 4 weeks ago

It's not "a little more" and it's completely disingenuous to claim it is. Takeaway costs £10 to £15. A quick home cooked, nutritious meal will cost less than £2.

by No_Kaleidoscope 4 weeks ago

agree hahahaa one of my friends eats takeout at least 4 times every week but at least he doesnt complain about being poor bcz of that

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You can go the middle road and purchase processed sauces, like gochujang. You can make really nice dishes very quickly with whole foods by using processed sauces or spice mixes etc. The processed sauces are usually pretty cheap since you're only using like one or two tbsps per meal. It's only when you go from processed sauces to processed everything that it becomes much more expensive.

by Katlynn80 4 weeks ago

The most expensive thing is time

by Hairy_Push 4 weeks ago

Paying like $5 to save 30 minutes of walking seems worth it to me tbh.

by No-Jackfruit-9071 4 weeks ago

And that should be the only way it's used. Take what's given and don't fall for their convenience trap. Smart, my man.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I love DoorDash. I wish I could order it all the time for all my meals. But I'm not rich so I can't. Sometimes when I'm craving McDonald's I end up with a fried bologna sandwich instead. Such is life.

by Top_Point 4 weeks ago

That friend bologna sandwich (or the flat hotdog as I call it) just saved you $20. I pat myself on the back Everytime I cook something, you're adding to your wallet while not adding to your waist line. Cooking for yourself is a form of self care SO DO IT, you are worth your own time and attention my friend. Take care of yourself amigo and God bless

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You can do it, fr fr :)

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

Thanks for the wake up call.

by Leonardorobel 4 weeks ago

Start cooking for two days. Me and my gf are doing pretty well financially and could afford to eat out most of the time, but we still have the poor habits from before. When we cook during the week, we just double the ingredients and make the meal for two days. Either to take to work or to eat it in the evening. Feels like someone cooked for you lol. :D

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

One insanely expensive meal per day.

by estherlang 4 weeks ago

Lol yeah I feel like a massive idiot Hey I may have spent super irresponsibly but atleast I'm not in debt.... yet

by Leonardorobel 4 weeks ago

I make a rule for myself. If I go to the grocery store, I get enough for 3-4 meals. I look at the sales and plan easy meals from that. Seems trivial, but this forces me to plan ahead and saves big money over takeout.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Ima get grocery delivered right now actually even though it's midnight lol. I'll take this into consideration

by Leonardorobel 4 weeks ago

That's a very, very popular opinion. My unpopular opinion is if you're poor you shouldn't spend more than $100/month/person on food... because that's my grocery spend and I'm not trying that hard (I won't stoop to walmart and don't bulk buy and I'm not much of a cook) so I know it's possible to spend less. But I'm always seeing people who go hungry at the end of the month or turn to food banks who are spending 3-5x as much on their food and blaming inflation for their helplessness, even as my spend has gone down during inflation (convenience foods are no longer cheap enough to tempt me so I've saved more). Can't help rolling my eyes at them, unless they have special doctor-prescribed dietary needs.

by Janis68 4 weeks ago

Have you considered cost of living might be different for people who lives places you don't?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I used to consider that, but it has yet to turn out to be the issue anytime I've been able to dig further into it. I live in California which is where the most people complain about how expensive things are, and in a semi-rural foothills town with relatively little competition and lacking some of the cheaper stores, and my diet doesn't include much in the way of locally-grown fresh foods. The only thing I drink is water (from the tap), my meats are basically chicken and canned tuna unless there's a real good sale on something else, I eat a lot of pasta, I make cookies myself, I pay attention to the calories per dollar value by glancing at labels and doing the mental math. I never use a list so I stay flexible about getting what's cheap this week as my variety. And I only shop the discounted stuff when I go to Raley's, filling in the rest at Target.

by Janis68 4 weeks ago

Bro this sounds awful. Like suicide level awful.

by friesenmadaline 4 weeks ago

$250-$300 will get you about a weeks worth of food if you live in Seattle.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

That's insane. For four people? I just made a shopping cart at for pickup online at a grocery store in Seattle. I was able to get 3lb chicken breast, 1lb ny strip, bacon, a package of brauts, 5lb chicken drum sticks, 2lb brussel sprouts, 2lb asparagus, 1lb spring salad mix, a pineapple, strawberries, bananas, blueberry's, 10lb of potatoes, 4 sweet potatoes for $100. It wasn't Whole Foods, but I think you can do better than $250-300.

by Victoradams 4 weeks ago

While Seattle is a little more expensive than Sacramento, I guarantee you that groceries do not cost 12x more in Seattle than they do in Sacramento (I'm in a smaller town in the greater Sacramento region, Sac is actually cheaper than here). So you're exactly who I'm talking about, people who think they have to spend an order of magnitude more than they actually have to spend. I mean, it's perfectly fine if you want to spend 12x more because you like convenience / particular foods / alcohol / particular stores / inflexible menu planning and you can afford to budget that -- but be aware that it's a choice you're making.

by Janis68 4 weeks ago

I'll add Hello Fresh and crap of that ilk to this as well.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Hear me out : people without access to a car or can't drive or have any mobility issues or don't have a license yet or have seizures or drunk people or any other thing I'm forgetting deserve fresh groceries too ?

by Rosanna16 4 weeks ago

It's probably a difference because I'm not American, but plenty of people don't own a car here, and they still get groceries themselves. We walk, bike or take public transport. And of course people with severe disabilities might need help shopping, but that's a tiny minority of the people using these apps and services.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Everyone ends up with a disability at some point, unless they die first, it's part of aging, and most disabilities aren't visible at a glance. And that's so amazing that you live in an area that provides great access to places! I wish I lived somewhere like that! People with wheelchairs and walkers and canes or any form of help can't get around where I am , sidewalks randomly cut off to grass or are raised up and pretty inaccessible for wheels 🫠

by Rosanna16 4 weeks ago

HelloFresh is the furthest thing from fresh.

by Katlynn80 4 weeks ago

This is "peasants deserve gruel" with one extra step of justification.

by creolaernser 4 weeks ago

It's more like peasants shouldn't overspend for gruel when they can eat fresh food for cheap. A whole chicken, a bag of potatoes and a bag of carrots is about $12 anywhere in America. It is also enough to feed a family of four. FWIW it's very easy to throw salt and pepper on a chicken and put it in the oven. People really don't like to cook I think.

by Victoradams 4 weeks ago

So you're saying they are broke but they should tip you still? Lmao

by Electrical-Egg 4 weeks ago

Well it's certainly true that if you're not making sensible spending choices probably don't bitch about not having enough money.

by Suspicious-Bid 4 weeks ago

As someone who has just gotten out of debt after being stuck at -$3000 for years because… Covid purchases, absolutely. But there's nuance to most takes like this. A lot of people who can't get good paying jobs also struggle to cook. Whether it be a physical disability, depression, or even just having no time to cook because you're working two jobs But… as someone who ate microwaved naan with margarine and raspberry jam this morning, I still agree that you can eat for ridiculously cheap. It's hard to not fall for the false sense of savings when you're offered a 40% off coupon though. Like I'd say they're less irresponsible/lazy and more just… easily manipulated

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

The thing about that makes me the most upset is that it's the poor exploiting the poor. These dummies will pay for $30 meals everyday not tipping cause they're broke and not consider the fact that the driver is also a poor person trying to make ends meet. It's just horde of zombies holding each other down

by friesenmadaline 4 weeks ago

Tipping culture needs to end, employers need to pay for the employee's salary and not expect customers to supplement it.

by Electrical-Egg 4 weeks ago

I don't think anyone "deserves" to be poor. Wouldnt you want everyone to be successful

by Idalubowitz 4 weeks ago

Look at figure 5 here. The rich (over $200k) use doordash, because if you earn that much it's a good decision to trade money for time. And the poor (under $25k) use doordash because they don't make good decisions. People in between use it less.

by hipolito36 4 weeks ago

lol okay boomer

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

All good, renter.

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

How is "renter" a meaningful insult? Even people who want to own a home will be in life situations where its materially impossible. Is someone in university or just starting working magically supposed to be certifiable for a loan? This is not even talking about home prices having tripled in relation to the average income.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

lol what? Is that your boomer attempt at a joke?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

If everyone who thinks differently than you is a boomer, you're going to have a very small circle of non-boomers in your life. All of whom will be as anxious and broke as you.

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

If you think people deserve to be poor you're going to have like zero friends because people will realize you're a jerk, house owner? Did I do it right?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

All my homeowner friends will like me I bet

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

Except he's 100% right. If you're poor you have absolutely zero business paying 50% premiums for restaurant food delivery.

by estherlang 4 weeks ago

lol dad is that you?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Oh dang I have been taught a lesson I will not soon forget

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

This should be a popular opinion

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Ordering food is a luxury, that's not even a warm take.

by toneydouglas 4 weeks ago

Right now I can't really leave my bed for more than 10 minutes without literally collapsing and being unable to get up, so I ordered pizza for two days while I wait for my groceries to be delivered this evening and hopefully I'll be in good enough condition to cook myself a meal tomorrow. I guess I just love living in the lap of luxury lol.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yep to all this! The difference in one's stress level and attitude when you become fiscally responsible and finally lift yourself to a point where you're not living paycheck to paycheck is HUGE. It was for me, anyway. The next tier is basically being able to buy things (within reason) without stressing about it. Weezer is doing a 30 year anniversary tour for the Blue Album? Cool, what city do I want to see them in. That feeling and that freedom is worth every minute of the 5 year ultra-grind to get myself out of poverty.

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

Huh. Weezer blue album? Where??

by Recent-Purchase 4 weeks ago

Lots of poor people don't have cars.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

uber fees can easily be more than a cheap used car

by Victoradams 4 weeks ago

Don't think this is unpopular

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I'd argue not necessarily poor but living paycheck to paycheck due to inefficient use of your resources.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I mean, "deserve to be poor" is a bit much but I get the idea. If you're poor, you shouldn't be using a luxury service on a regular basis when there are cheaper alternatives.

by Alva65 4 weeks ago

Doordash is only good for the periodic coupons they throw at me. I use them on pickup orders, which usually beats the price of ordering from the restaurant directly.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Ngl I agree lol growing up my family literally never ordered delivery, my parents always picked stuff up. After going to college / the emergence of delivery apps, I have only used them when I have an existing gift card / voucher so I don't actually have to pay more than a couple dollars or at a party if multiple people are already ordering. The fees are crazy and so not worth it, especially when you can often very easily pick up food yourself or make it at home.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

When there's a discount, it's cheaper than local grocery stores to feed my Family.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

If you cook, it's cheaper then going to pick it up as well.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah at this rate poor people should never eat outside else it's their fault they are poor. Like the sole eating out is what's keeping them poor lmao

by Electrical-Egg 4 weeks ago

You need a more open mind. My pregnant GF used door dash for pain meds while I was at work. We were living paycheck to paycheck at the time, but I guess we deserved it.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

If u getting doordash then u not that poor

by No-Key 4 weeks ago

Weird perspective to me because the only poor people I know who use it are disabled

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Fully agree. Cripes, even when I do have extra cash in my pocket I like to keep it there by not doing stupid things like adding an 80-100% markup on my dinner because I was too lazy to either get it myself or find something else more practical

by Spacocha 4 weeks ago

It's only the rich who can afford convenience.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

OP is obviously referring to able bodied people that work. Don't be obtuse. Food delivery apps are a cancer on the wallet of the youth. Food spending is easily the #1 thing almost everyone could improve on. It's super naive to think anyone is entitled to doordash.

by Victoradams 4 weeks ago

I mean it's true for the 99% of people who are able to drive quit being nit picky

by IntentionOk324 4 weeks ago

What about the people without a car? What about the people with mental health issues or chronic disorders who struggle to muster the energy? What about a mom of 5 whose partner died and now she just doesn't have the time working two jobs? You consider only 1% to meet the criteria? The corporate overlords are successfully able to convince the people that the poors are poor due to their own faults and not because of inflation, lack of increase of minimum wage, housing crisis, uncontrolled rent, etc

by Electrical-Egg 4 weeks ago

I said the people who are able to drive. People without a car cannot drive. If you know that you are poor, and it's likely causing some mental issues/energy problems, why would you then spend more money ordering food, contributing to your poverty, and worsen your mental health issues? In the unlikely scenario that all 5 children are below the age of 16 and they received no life insurance from the death of the spouse, if she doesn't have time to go and drive to get takeout, how does she have time to be home to eat the takeout in the first place? And if she's ordering for her kids, why not just buy frozen food and save much, much more money than takeout? I'm not saying inflation, housing, rent, etc, aren't issues, but unnecessary expenses are also part of what causes poverty, and if you can cut down on them (which 99% of people can), you should.

by IntentionOk324 4 weeks ago

That's fine. The world sucks, let people be happy

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I know plenty of penny-pinchers who are still poor, I don't think your logic stands up to reality.

by No-Jackfruit-9071 4 weeks ago

Sucks massively moreso when your poor.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Maybe because they see the way out and have done the work themselves and so have first hand knowledge of what it takes, and are frustrated that others won't take the steps necessary to improve their life. It's like talking to a drug addict about how things could be so much better if they'd just kick the habit. It's objectively true but for so many reasons it's almost impossible to bring about that change. That is inherently frustrating.

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

So? You climbed yourself out so move on. If some rich or comfortable person came to you 10 years ago and started detailing all of the things you're doing wrong, how do you think you would react to that? It's not your problem. Or don't. It's not my problem 🤷 it's just interesting how you can't see the irony in that

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Lmao OP, you're a horrible person with no understanding of what it's like to be poor. But I gotta admit, the bluntness of the your diction got a laugh out of me.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

50% of the cost? Its like 2 quid delivery. If you factor in petrol and care depreciation its cheaper to get it delivered

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Found the type of person delivery drivers hate lol

by estherlang 4 weeks ago

Yeah this is a bad take. People act like we don't use coupons or look for cheaper options when ordering online lol. Plus, not everyone has a car or a grocery store in the vicinity. Not everyone has the health either.

by Electrical-Egg 4 weeks ago

I'm gonna go to the store today and see if I can buy ground beef and cheese and chips and salsa and only spend $2. Where I live a bag of tortilla chips is around 2 dollars but I also gotta pay tax.

by EarBeautiful 4 weeks ago

$2 per meal, yo. Gotta average it out per portion. You get that, right? Or not so much?

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

Weird gripe of day

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Poor people tend to not have cars, or car insurance, or licenses.

by Legitimate-Mood 4 weeks ago

OP is one hundred percent right. You shouldn't be using "Predatory Convenience Apps" if your ends are barely meeting. Plan ahead, or make some oatmeal.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yes I'm one of those. That's why I buy my food at the cheapest grocery store and cook it myself.

by Small_Money 4 weeks ago

Always? Don't worry, I'm sure I could examine your spending and find something to point out as superfluous too.

by Legitimate-Mood 4 weeks ago

Yes almost exclusively. Occasionally my wife and I will treat ourselves to a night out at a nice restaurant.

by Small_Money 4 weeks ago

Or functioning legs? I wonder how they get to their jobs, or indeed ever step foot outside their house. Grocery delivery is still expensive but an order of magnitude cheaper than DoorDash.

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

But you understand how you can do this with anything, right? Why are they driving to work instead of walking? Why aren't they working three jobs? Why are they buying their kid xmas presents? You could go on and on and on. That's the issue with blaming the poor, it never ends. You'll always find something more they should be doing or something they shouldn't be spending money on.

by Legitimate-Mood 4 weeks ago

they probably shouldn't be buying doordash though. you're just pissing money down the drain when you buy doordash

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Sure, but there's always something that's superfluous spending.

by Legitimate-Mood 4 weeks ago

So you're arguing people shouldn't have to budget? And yes, a lot of people are broke because they don't want to do something cheaper but less convenient. Taking a bus. Making a meal. Cleaning your own house.

by eraweimann 4 weeks ago

There are bad financial decisions and worse financial decisions. Make the least bad ones available to you if you want you life to be objectively better financially.

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

When you're in the hole and you can't make ends meet, you end up being forced to make compromises. For some, it's door dash because they get home late from a long work shift and they don't have time to cook for their kids. Sometimes that's what it comes down to.

by Jaysonschuster 4 weeks ago

I guess before Door dash existed they and their kids just starved to death. The only two possible options in that situation.

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

This is a dumb argument. I HIGHLY doubt that the OP is referring to once a quarter emergencies (although I have NEVER used door dash, hell I can't even bare to pay for pizza delivery). I was by no means poor growing up, but I can always do math on cost per mile, and if it's cheaper for me to drive, then I drive because if it takes me an hour to make enough to pay someone what would take me 10 minutes to do myself, guess what I'm doing?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Saying food delivery is a luxury is eugenics. Good one.

by Katlynn80 4 weeks ago

I'd rather waste the dashers gas than my own.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You're paying more than the gas would cost, EVERYTIME.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Not with some in app doordash deliveries

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Exactly! Poor people shouldn't enjoy anything in life. They should just make the budget conscious decision every day of their lives and be happy about it. They don't deserve anything above the bare minimum because their lives are the bare minimum unless they will their way out of poverty which is so easy if you just grind from one underpaid job to the next slightly less underpaid job. The secret to not being poor is to not enjoy anything for years and then when you are comfortable at the age of 50 you can enjoy old age like a superior class. It's so easy stupid poors

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I don't think sarcasm bends the laws of reality.

by viviane59 4 weeks ago

I get what you're saying, but to genuinely engage with your opinion, if you have DashPass ($10 a month) then getting it delivered doesn't cost more than picking it up, other than a tip. And you can eat cheap on Doordash. I ordered a combo large burrito and a small burrito to my door for a grand total of $15 yesterday from a local Mexican place. Lunch and dinner. I got 12 wings and mac & cheese delivered for under $15 from Popeyes a couple days before that. That was my main meal for the day You're right that it's easy to make your own food but, unless you're making an effort to cook the cheapest things possible, the sad fact is that cooking at home isn't much different price-wise than ordering food anymore. Like, spaghetti, meatballs and pasta sauce is setting me back $15 as well.

by Mindless_Witness3956 4 weeks ago

That's like $15 dollars to cook enough spaghetti for multiple people. Dashpass or not the prices on food delivery apps are inflated compared to what they are on the actual menu.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

True, but the amount of money I make working for an extra hour more than covers the amount of money I make to order food to eat for the day.

by Mindless_Witness3956 4 weeks ago

So work an extra hour instead of taking 10 minutes to drive, sound math

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

How much spaghetti, how many meals worth, are you getting for $15? If you tell me that you eat one (dry) pound of pasta, one jar of Ragu, and a pound of meatballs in one meal, you're either an NFL offensive lineman or enormously fat, such that one entree from DoorDash wouldn't be enough anyway. $15 of spaghetti and meatballs is multiple meals for normal people.

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

Or 1 meal for 3 people.

by Plus_Reflection 4 weeks ago

Right, exactly. How much is three meals from doordash?

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

About $5 and you don't have to spend the time cooking or cleaning up. My time is worth that alone.

by Plus_Reflection 4 weeks ago

You can get three meals for $5? Please screenshot such an order, because I'm skeptical.

by Relative_Pangolin 4 weeks ago

If your time is worth that, then you're not poor and this is a mute point dummy

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

In the past, I used DoorDash because I was crippled by alcoholism. I couldn't drive anywhere because I was drunk all the time.

by ProfessionalDuck 4 weeks ago
