-364 Real athletes swim, the rest just play with balls. Amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

think about it, swimmers wear speedos and are shirtless around men all of the time

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha so true

by Anonymous 13 years ago

guy swimmers hang out around girls in swim suits for hours a day touching them all over their bodies while swimming. Girls get to hang out with buff shirtless guys for hours, also touching them all over. (and I know this. I'm a swimmer. Even today my butt, stomach, and pelvis got groped while we were doing a set.)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

SO TRUE! thank goodness someone feels the same way :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what about runners? they don't play with balls :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

runners run around a track for HOURS. that is much harder than swimming.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Swimmers swim for HOURS.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Swimmers normally have two two-hour practices every day, and its just as hard as running, except you only get to breath about half as much.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha so true.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hmm I don't think running is as hard as swimming...I'm not athletic at all but if I practice running, I can become decent. Swimming takes skill uber skill.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah well that's just cause you've never even TRIED running. if you do, you'll find it's not that easy hey i do the mile and the 800. i don't think there's a mile for swimming.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dude, yeah there is. There's the 500, 1000 yd, as well as the mile. And please, you think running a mile is hard? Most everyone can do that, but I'd love to see you try and swim a 200 yard butterfly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yea but you only need to have endurance/speed and technique. In football, for instance, you need that AND explosiveness AND hand eye coordination AND more mental toughness.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Think about sprinting 50 yards vs. sprinting 50 yards in the water. The only thing you have to push out of your way when you run is air. Yup, runners have it tough.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yea... but you sprint 100 yrds.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ermm swimmers swim that all while holding their breath and pushing through water which is a lot thicker than air. what do you think is harder?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So you're saying football, soccer, basketball, etc. players are not athletes? That is the stupidest comment I've heard all day.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They are athletes, just not "real" athletes. If you have ever swam on a swim team, you will realize that we do so much more work than soccer or basketball players. I have played soccer and basketball...I was in competitive gymnastics, I ran cross country, and can fully say that swimming takes so much more out of you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I swim a lot, not on swim teams but still do laps and stuff, and it doesn't take that much out of you. I play Baseball and that takes just as much out of me as swimming. plus do you see the athletes that aren't on roids? those guys/girls are insane! swimming is not the "ultimate" sport. how can you not be a real athlete, when you have big rippling muscles? jeese. ,

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Idk well I swim really competitively...and we swim a ton..like people are in tears. I never said those people aren't athletes. I just think swimming takes a lot out of you. Okay I do understand from playing soccer that a sport with a ball takes a ton because you have to learn strategies and such, I guess what I really meant was swimming takes a ton out of you--where I know a lot of people don't even consider it a sport. I consider runners, swimmers, gymnasts, cyclists, basketball players, and even cheerleaders athletes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what about baseball

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Baseball players are also athletes. (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There is a huge difference between swimming laps on your own and being on a competitive team. You probably don't swim 4 hours a day, sprinting half of it, do you?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What about cyclists? I call BS if you argue that Lance Armstrong, among many others, aren't "real" athletes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

soccer has SO much running, this post should be considered a troll.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People like you bug me. I'm on the track team, and that is so friggin difficult. If you swim, you at least are in water that can cool you down [even if it's just a degree, at least you're not overheating] Swimming IS difficult, but so are other sports. Just not cheerleading [unless it's competition cheerleading]

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Um, I promise that the water doesn't cool you down at all. We actually have to get out of the water and pour cold water from our bottles on ourselves to keep from over-heating.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, if you're in warm water, getting out actually cools you down [at least, is has whenever I got out of a hot pool. Even in 90 degree weather]

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Standard pool tempurature is 86 degrees, and the air is supposed to be the same tempurature. With the amount of humidity in the pool area, it won't cool you down, especially if you are doing a hard workout.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just like when you're running, you won't just "cool down". Sports are all pretty tough.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In your first comment you said that the water is there to cool you down, then all of a sudden changed what side of the argument you were on. But I do agree that all sports are tough (except curling. Precision, but I don't think a whole lot of training.)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Water usually cools me down even if I do a hard workout, but I forgot to take into consideration the fact that most swimming competitions take place in a cramped, enclosed area with other people releasing H2O from their skin and the perspiration after a race.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

are you a competitive swimmer?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nope. More for fun and workouts.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Then that doesn't count. Even going in for workouts isn't near as intense as competitive swimming. people who go in for lap swimming on their own are the ones who complain its too cold and insist the door stays closed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not saying competition swimming is easy. I'm saying it's not the hardest sport there is.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Your a huge pussy

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Holy crap guys, there's about a 90% chance that this is a joke. Chill out.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Don't take all of this so personally. Its just a joke that's really fun to say. (but swimming is so bad-a)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Swimmer are the only ones who get ripped form playing the sport, so obviously we have the right idea.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ok this is a bad comment even if you think swimming is harder that doesn't make others not athletes i am a figure skater and i know girls that train 12 hours on ice and 10 hours off ice a week if you think these people are not real athletes then you try doing a triple axel even off ice and then start complaining

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My best friend is a figure skater, and I remember from elementary school her going to practice before school, and after school for many hours. Skating was, and still is her life. I understand completely, I have seen how hard skating can be.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh wow, swimming is such a stupid sport. its not even a sport. there's not skill to it, just going back and forth and back and foth.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You must not like running either, amirite? And hey are you able to swim the butterfly?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

omfg you do not just swim up and down!!! if your tecnique is screwed you will never go fast, proven in training every day. a non swimmer with crap tecnique could not beat phelps if he was going as slow as he could with brilliant tecnique. there's also pacing, you screw that up and the rest of the race is fucked. with swimming and other sports like figure skating and gymnastics you are chasing perfection. the more perfect you are the faster you will go, it's a fact. swimming is not stupid I work over 30 hours a week in and out of the water chasing perfection not being able to breathe being told im not good enough to miss out on teams by .07 of a second swimming is a devastation sport but the perks you get are the best there are

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is way more than swimming up and down a lane. You have to have perfect technique to even get anywhere in the water. Swimmers spend upwards of 19 hours a week in and out of the pool training for perfection. You have to be stronger than almost any other sport to be great at it, and have a very strong respitory system. Just try going running or doing another sport but only inhaling every 10 seconds. See how long you last. And have you EVER seen the olympics? Swimming is one of the biggest events in it! People spend their lives working hard on fixing minor imperfections in their strokes as well as in their mind-set to get the most out of it. You go and race a 200 meter butterfly, and tell me that swimming is not a sport.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

WAIT WAIT, WHAT ABOUT WATER POLO? THAT SHIT IS CRAZY.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha water polo is twice as violent as football. People kill each other out there. Water polo is insane. (;

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But you gotta love it! It's a great way to get out your frustration, if you know what I'm saying..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha so true...I have friends who have broken people's noses from polo.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've broken a few bones in my hand while in goal. One time was even from someone trying to shoot!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ouch, yeah I just started playing this year for my school. I had never played before, but I learned pretty quickly that anything can happen while you are in the water.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ha, its so fun because you can play dirty! I saw a kid on a highschool team who scratched himself all the way down his chest to get some sort of penalty on the other team. He drew blood just to get some leverage with the refs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

More hardcore than any other sport out there, I've got to say.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ok you dont know what you are talking about if u dont swim competively if u just swim some laps in your pool it is WAY harder than that!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

swimming is a tough sport, one of the toughest. I'm not saying that the other sports are easy, this is my opinion. I've been swimming competitively for 8 years now. Swimming takes endurance, strategy, strength, and determination. Without all four, you're screwed. To me, swimming is harder than running because you have so much more resistance in the water than on land. But i definitely say it's a sport, it works every muscle in your body and is one of the main activities that keeps you in shape best.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and by the way, i do the 800 and 1500 meter races, prelim and finals for swimming. Try it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

theyre all sports! they all require energy and skill and whatever, and anyone who does them is a real athlete. does that make soccer or football players fake? those arent easy sports to play. ps- this could go the other way "real athletes tackle, sprint, swing, hit, ect, the rest just splash in the water

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hahah, swimmers sprint too genius

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you get the idea.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What about hockey players?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hell yeah I <3 hockey, its my shit. Im the most beast female hockey player in my school ;D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

real athletes run track. BITCH!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

other sports have "real athletes" but swimming gives you the best work out, hands down. no other sport works EVERYTHING the way swimming does. Plus it's low impact so you're not killing your body the way running or football or any of those other sports do.
